Why Productivity is at the heart of Microsofts strategy

At the recent Future Decoded Event in London Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, spoke about the reinvention of productivity for people in the light of the huge changes that have been brought about by IT and the Internet. Their mission has evolved from 'a computer on every desk and in every home' and he said, "At our core, Microsoft is the platform company for the mobile-first and cloud-first world. We will reinvent productivity to empower every person and every organization on the planet to do more and achieve more."

Twitter Background of Satya Nadella Microsoft

The scene was set for Satya by the preceding speakers:

Jeremy Paxman, the Broadcaster
Sir Martin Sorrell of WPP
Dame Stella Rimmington, the former head of MI5
Sarah Murray of Positive Disruption
Bob Geldof
Ronan Dunne of Telefonica

Each of the speakers focused on the changes brought about by technology and their opinions on the future in their field. Jeremy Paxman spoke about the dangers that come about when you remove social interaction. People have not changed, the technology has changed how people can communicate. We need to be careful to ensure people do not hide behind the technology, but use it effectively. Martin Sorrell spoke about how the advertising industry has been fundamentally changed. Stella Rimington spoke about the cutural shift and a need for a much more open and inclusive style of leadership. Sarah Murray had interesting views on natured and nurtured entrepreneurs. Bob Geldof spoke passionately about the availability of education and quoted Epictetus, "Only the educated are free". Ronan Dunne shared that the UK alone needs 750,000 more digitally qualified people in the next 5 years.

The theme that came up throughout was the importance of communication and effective tools for communication are essential to empower this reinvention of productivity. In this mobile-first, cloud-first world you can only maximise your productivity with an integrated approach to communications. This is why at Benemen we have created a single unified communication platform to simplify your telecommunication challenges, improve your productivity and lower costs.
